It can be a different thing for every song, although most of the time with the songs that are on my new album, we would have the song first, and then my producer and I would find a concept to write about that really fit that song. Then I would write and he would write, then come back into the studio later, collaborate our ideas, and finish writing and recording the final record in one session!
The concepts are just things from my life though! Having fun, break ups, my love life..:) I guess that inspires me just because it's honest!
Any Songs You Have Written That Hold An Extra Place In Your Heart? And If So, Why?
My single Cease Fire is really dear to me, becuase it was the first record that my producer and I wrote together, and as a result decided to do my full album vs. just an EP. At first I had some other songs that he was just going to be re-producing, but not writing on, and then when we did Cease Fire we were like ok...there's something here, I need to develop more of this sound...
So I feel like Cease Fire really gave birth to everything I have going on now.
What Are Your Thoughts On The Recording Sessions?
It's always my favorite day to record, because my producer and I write really well together and something magical always comes out just in the process of getting it all out on paper. Plus that is when the ideas really come into fruition and so it's exciting! There is so much possibility at that stage.
What About The First Show You Played, Any Memories?
When I first came out here to LA I played in like any bar I could...just to my tracks! That's actually how I got scouted out to work with the production company that did my album! But my first really big show was actually just earlier this year at the Key Club, and man that was seriously fun! That was the first time we had hired dancers and an artistic director to make my show the full realization of how I wanted people to experience my music. And now I'm hooked, I love the dancing aspect of my shows.
So Far, What Has Been Your Best Live Experience?
I think it must have been just recently at the Whisky A Go Go for the AI Music Awards Nomination Event! Not only is the Whisky such a historic place to perform, but there were a lot of really great other artists involved in the awards show, as well as the producer of the show Mikey Jayy, who has been making such great strides for the AI Music Awards!
Also - that day I had just gotten in from South America! So I really didn't know how well I would do on like no sleep and not seeing my dancers for a couple weeks! But we had rehearsal earlier in the day, and somehow from the enegy of the crowd it was even better than our previous shows! Such a rush!
Orange Yellow and Red...I like firey colors
Indian..or really anything spicy
Any Memories Of The First Concert You Attended?
My first concert was a Spice Girls concert...which I guess looking back, now explains a lot :) Girl power! haha...I have to give it to them, they were not afraid to think outside of the book and just be shamelessly pop and funky...I love doing that at times too.
Any Bands/Artists You Enjoy Listening To That People Might Find Surprising?
It's probably not surprising, but I knew every single lyric to Michael Jackson's HIStory album by the time I was 6. I did go through a short country phase for a while, and now and then I still belt out some Shania Twain..
So What Do You Have Planned For Next Year?
So Much!!! So we are promoting my debut Album "All About Today" as well as my single "Cease Fire" and I plan to do a lot of shows this year, which hopefully just means a tour... ;)
I just signed with a label in Germany that we are doing a single with and there will be a major label rapper featured on the song! So we will be doing a video for that and seeing how it does!
What Do You Want To Say To The Fans?
I just want to say thank you for everyone listening and who has listened to or bought my music! Please stay connected to me, I really want to be an example of someone doing what I love every day because it's my passion - so it gives others permission to do the same! I know it sounds cliche but you really can do anything you believe in, as long as you never give up!
