Hello! Thanks so much for the opportunity!
First Off, How Do The Songs Come About Considering The Songwriting Process And What Inspires You?
Our inspiration comes from everywhere...music, life experiences and just the love of creating! Each song is written differently. Sometimes we jam at rehearsal and the ideas morph into a song, sometimes there is a guitar/bass riff and then I add melodies/lyrics, and sometimes there are vocal melodies and we add guitar/bass/drums. We don't have a “formula” per se, we just try and write music that we love, and hope that others enjoy it too.
Any Songs You Have Written That Hold An Extra Place In Your Heart? And If So, Why?
There is a song I wrote back in 2004 titled “All Her Right” that was written in memory of my mother. It was one of those songwriting experiences where all the lyrics and dynamics all just came out and fell into perfect place. So far it's only been played acoustic, but I would LOVE to record it soon!!
What Are Your Thoughts On The Recording Sessions?
I love going into the studio to record... it's definitely where our creativity comes alive! It's always great to hear the songs fine tuned and molded into their greatest potential. We are currently working with Brendan Dekora at East West Studios in Hollywood , CA . This is the second time we've worked with him; the first time was on “The Escape Stage” EP. Not only is he a great engineer (he recently worked with Muse and Mute Math!), he is a good friend, so we are very comfortable working together. Brendan always makes sure we keep it FUN J
What About The First Show You Played, Any Memories?
The first show I ever played was in 1998 at the Go Lounge in Orlando , FL. I remember being super excited and nervous, and the show ended up being a complete train wreck (aka “learning experience”) – our drummer at the time was nervous too apparently...all the songs were twice the tempo, and I had to keep telling him during the songs to slow down! Also, the bass was SO loud it blew the monitors and we had to stop ~ Needless to say the venue wasn't pleased nor the fans, but hey, I guess that's ROCK and ROLL!
So Far, What Has Been Your Best Live Experience?
I have had quite a few, but one of my most memorable live experiences was performing at a little bar called the Downtown in Morristown , TN back in April 2006. The venue was packed and the people were so appreciative and excited to hear live music, and the club owners really took care of the band! It was refreshing to play a venue that genuinely cared about the bands. Another show would have to be the Key Club in April 2009. It was our first show with this current line up and my first LA show! The venue was packed and the sound was amazing!
I like Blue. I love Black.
I love all food, I am not picky one bit, but if I had to choose I would say Mexican or Sushi!
Any Memories Of The First Concert You Attended?
The first concert I went to was in Cleveland , OH in 1993 to see Metallica ~ Corrosion Of Conformity and Danzig opened! I was 5th row center, close enough To get a pick and for James Hetfield to spill beer all over me!! Horns UP! \m/
Any Bands/Artists You Enjoy Listening To That People Might Find Surprising?
Well, I really love all music - I listen to everything from Patsy Cline, Whitesnake, Indie Arie to Baxter, Katatonia and Tool...I am all over the place. But, my one guilty pleasure is singing Christmas songs..ALL YEAR LONG!! More annoying than surprising.
So What Do You Have Planned For Next Year?
We are stoked for 2013...we plan to finish recording our new music, make a video, and do some touring! We will definitely keep you updated ;)
What Do You Want To Say To The Fans?
I just want to thank all the fans for going to our shows, buying our music and for spreading the word about Lucid Fly! We couldn't do any of this without you
